Description
Tragopogon is a species of salsify that seems to be known by many names such as: goat's beard, common salsify, western, salsify, wild oysterplant to name just a few. It typically reaches a height of 20-60 cm with a yellow flower head about 6 cm in diameter in late spring or early summer, later going to seed that resembles very large dandelions. I had several growing in my fields this spring and as much as I hated them, when the sun hit, they seemed to glow and shimmer like stars dotting the landscape.
