This painting was completed in 2004 from a reference photo taken nearly 25 years earlier at Echo Lake in British Columbia. The tree roots were on the shore line and had been exposed by many years of the water eroding away the soil. I used a heavy impasto gel to build up the winding roots for texture before applying paint.
